I
was born and grew up in a small town in
North Dakota. I played the piano for 12
years and the cello for 10 years. I took
ballet lessons; I sang in the church choir
and even played golf. I had a typical youth,
one filled with love and security.
However, I am going to fast forward my life
to the present and share a segment of my
life that provides me with so much passion
and enthusiasm that my cup literally over
flows………and that is my work, where I am in
service to all that arrive at my doorstep.
Here is my journey -
My
journey started about 19 years ago when my
husband and I were struggling financially
and we decided that I needed to return to
the work force. I was fortunate to get a job
at a hospital. At first I found the job
fascinating, but then I noticed that I had a
tendency to get ill a lot. If I read about a
patient who came through the ER diagnosed
with a brain tumor, I would develop a
headache and just know that I too had a
brain tumor. I am a firm believer that when
your environment begins to affect you
negatively, it is time to move on.
That is exactly what I did, but only to a
worse position. I took a job at a cancer
center and began to become extremely
attached to the patients. Apparently I had
not learned my lesson. I believe I was saved
from the stress of this job when one of the
oncologists decided to leave the practice.
This meant downsizing and ultimately I was
let go. It wasn’t due to poor job
performance by any means, I was the last one
hired and therefore I was the first to be
let go.
I
continued to work for various physicians and
found it interesting that, here I was
thoroughly immersed in the medical field,
when in fact I had graduated from college
with a degree in merchandising and business.
Had you asked me 20 years prior if I would
have even imagined myself in the medical
field I would have chuckled and told you “no
way!”
This is when I discovered that life can only
be understood backwards, but can only be
lived forward. I started soul searching and
felt that I had been given these wonderful
gifts of compassion, understanding and
sensitivity and yet I wasn’t using them in
the correct capacity. I began to meditate
and reflect on what perhaps my true purpose
in this life was. It was amazing when the
epiphany hit me! Go back to school, and fine
tune your natural skills to really make a
difference and help people to become the
best they can be.
I
was so excited! I have always been a
believer that you are never given a dream
without also being given the power to make
it come true. I am proud to say that 18
months later I graduated as a certified
clinical hypnotherapist and opened my own
practice in Brentwood (Northern) California.
I decided to bring my practice full circle
and continued on with my education. I
completed a two year program in under 5
months, graduating at 98%, with honors and
am now a Board Certified and Accredited
Holistic Health Practitioner.
I
enjoy working with people on a holistic
level and helping them obtain optimal
health…..mentally, emotionally and
physically. I have the opportunity and good
fortune to be blessed daily by having my own
hypnotherapy and holistic health practice. I
am touched by the presence of my clients who
grace my doorway daily. They share many
stories about their lives and we laugh and
cry together. The best part about my
practice is that I get to meet people I
probably would have never had the
opportunity to connect with if I wasn’t
doing what I do.
This has been wonderful life so far. I have
learned to trust that there is a bigger
picture and to embrace opportunity as well
as embracing humility and graciously
accepting the gifts that life brings to me,
but through the timing of the universe
rather than through my own will. Remembering
that service is truly the rent we pay while
we are here on earth.
Live with passion,
Shayn
